Welcome to the First Class Travel Guide!
The goal of this site is to help readers become more discerning travelers that can maximize the many opportunities for luxury travel both domestically and internationally.
It is very realistic for almost anyone interested in taking one or two big vacations a year to experience some unbelievable luxury travel at prices far less than you probably thought possible. I know this because I’ve done it myself and I am still doing it. Over the past year, I’ve traveled to three different continents while flying on business and first class and staying in suites at high end resorts. At no time did I pay the full cash price for any of those trips, which could have cost anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000 if I had paid in cash at the quoted rate.
The key to being able to travel like that is to plan your vacations strategically. It’s important to resist short-term impulse decisions and make decisions with a longer term focus. The other critical element is to maximize credit cards and airline & hotel loyalty programs to your benefit. Combining strategic vacation planning with a good credit rating is a potent combination that you can leverage into some phenomenal travel experiences.
What the Site is not About
- Free travel – I wish there was a way to travel in luxury for free. Unfortunately, I am aware of no legitimate strategy you can use to travel in luxury completely free. No matter what strategy you use, it will still cost money, but with good planning, the final cost can be far less than you likely thought possible.
- Excessive or Irresponsible Credit Card Use – If you currently have credit card debt, the most important thing you should do is to take steps to pay off the credit card debt. Do not follow any advice or strategy from this site or any other web site until you have paid off any outstanding credit card balances. It is very important that you pay your monthly credit card balance in full. The strategies I use and will be discussing on the site rely on you maintaining a good credit rating. Your credit rating is a highly valuable asset and you should treat it that way.
Luxury Traveler Categories
There is not a one size fits all solution that will meet the goals of every traveler. However this site has taken the approach of broadly categorizing travel strategies around international or domestic travel. Certain credit cards and loyalty programs can be more beneficial for international travel whereas other credit cards and loyalty programs have more benefits for domestic travel.
How to Best Use the Site
If your new to the world of loyalty programs and travel credit cards, some of the strategies and concepts that will be discussed may seem complicated at first. Don’t try to learn everything at once. Read a little bit and come back again later when another article catches your attention and learn a little bit more. Over time, you’ll become more comfortable with some of the strategies and concepts and may gradually be curious to test them out yourself. In fact, that’s the very approach I took, when I started testing out these strategies myself.
I want to emphasize that no one should race out and try to recreate the trips I am writing about. The best way to learn how to do this is by going slow and learning a little bit at a time. Planning these trips requires patience, attention to detail, and learning from your mistakes. I can’t guarantee anyone else will have the same results as I experienced. I can just describe the steps that I took and how it worked out for me. I want to assure you that as I first started planning some of these trips, I’ve made all kinds of mistakes, but I always learned from them to improve on a future trip. There are a number of variables to juggle to make these trips work including finding open airline and hotel award redemptions that match your vacation schedule. Sometimes its just not possible to get everything to match perfectly.
Learn from My Experiences
I have a full time job, but I try to take one to two luxury vacations a year. My philosophy is that I work very hard throughout the year, so the limited time I have to take a vacation, I want to make it as memorable as possible, but I don’t want to spend a fortune doing it. My vision for this site is to be a blueprint for that philosophy.
I plan to write about the planning I do to make these trips possible. I also plan to write about my experiences on these trips. You will read about the good, the bad, and everything else that goes into these trips. After reading about my experiences you can decide if you want to test any out for yourself. Maybe you might just find it interesting to read about the unusual and exotic places I’m traveling to.
I hope you find the site interesting. If there are certain topics you would like to see or have any other questions, feel free to contact me directly or by commenting on any of the posts.
